Sexual Offenses Treatment in St. George, Utah

Sexual Offenses Treatment for Adults in St. George, Utah

Participants come to understand that they are expected to fully cooperate with treatment, to avoid all further sexually abusive behaviors, and to commit to a lifestyle in which all sexual activity is legal, age-appropriate, consenting, and motivated by a genuine concern for the emotional welfare of all persons involved. Participating in the program requires a strong commitment to learning the traumatizing impacts of abusive sexual behaviors.

The belief of our program is that problem sexual behavior is not accidental or spontaneous, but rather pre-planned and reflects a broader pattern of self-defeating behaviors and attitudes.  Unless corrected, these patterns become cyclical.

The program is divided into 5 phases.  Each phase focuses on a different aspect of treatment.

Phase 1: Full Disclosure of Sexual Behavior

  • Become oriented to the treatment program.
  • Gain a personal investment in the therapy process.
  • Exploration of life experiences that have shaped one’s identity.
  • Ful. disclosure of past sexual misbehavior.
  • Pass sexual history polygraph.

Phase 2: Understanding Patterns of Offending and Managing Deviant Arousal

  • Clarifying what was inappropriate about offending behavior.
  • Identifying how the offender may have groomed victim(s).
  • Full disclosure the extent of sexual misbehavior with victim(s).
  • Understand how the offender planned and schemed to commit the offense(s).
  • Understand and control any deviant sexual arousal that may be present.
  • Develop healthy sexuality.

Phase 3: Understanding Thinking Errors and The Offense Cycle

  • Identify cognitive distortions and thinking errors.
  • Link thinking errors used to commit sexual misbehavior.
  • Identify the origins of thinking errors.
  • Identify and use strategies to eliminate thinking errors and cognitive distortions.
  • Understand each stage of the offense cycle.
  • Identify thinking errors that go with each stage.
  • Identify how the offender experienced the offense cycle…then…and now.
  • Identify strategies to recognize and intervene in the offense cycle.

Phase 4: Victim Empathy

  • Understand the effects the abusive behavior has had and will continue to have on victim.
  • Understand the effects of the abusive behavior on the secondary victims and the community.
  • Take steps toward reunification with family when appropriate.
  • Take full responsibility with victims through the clarification process when appropriate.

Phase 5: Relapse Prevention and Healthy Lifestyle Changes

  • Developing a life-long plan to manage sexual misbehavior, thinking errors and cognitive distortions.
  • Maintain healthy sexuality and healthy relationships

It is estimated that if a client works at a reasonable pace, can complete the primary treatment program within 12 to 18 months.

Clinical Polygraph:

A history of past sexual behaviors and self-reporting of ongoing sexual activity will be reviewed through clinical polygraph. The primary purpose of the polygraphs are to assist in staying motivated, honest, to avoid further problem sexual behaviors and to help gradually regain the appropriate trust of family and community.  Failure to produce a non-deceptive polygraph may be cause for termination from treatment.

Assessment and treatment of Deviant Arousal:

Penile plethysmography may be a component of this program.

Weekly group treatment is the primary delivery of this program.  Individual and family therapy is strongly encouraged as well as part of the treatment process.

Treatment Group occurs each Wednesday at 5 pm
